Too Clever by Half

Too Clever by Half is an 1868 satire by Russian playwright Aleksandr Ostrovsky which showcases a cast of outrageous characters who were particularly entertaining to design, as was the period and location to research.

Design Approach

This project required a significant amount of research early on. However, I did not stay strictly within late nineteenth century Russia, and did allow myself certain artistic liberties to create a more fantastic style grounded in the research I found on Russian folk dress and court dress alike from the time.
